Chapters, Plot Twists & Characters

Life and all of the chaos it entails, became a bit easier when I started to acknowledge it in chapters. Look at your life thus far, and all it will continue to bring in the future, as a book. From cover to cover, we can start to feel like there are parts of our story that we can control, and some parts that we cannot. Regardless, what has helped me is understanding that it is all part of the journey and the novel that is, our beautiful lives.

The difficult part is that you are of course the author of this book, but you have to live sometimes day to day as if you’re the reader. In many ways you do not have control over who shows up and what plot twists might happen, so you can let go of control in that sense. On the other hand though as the author, you can decide when it's time to close a chapter, who and what you may leave in it, and when to begin a new one. Another beauty of the author seat, is that you don’t know which characters may be in chapter 10 or at the end of the book, while you’re in chapter 1. Hell at most times you don't even know what chapter you're in at any given time. There is beauty in this. Will there be characters that stay through the entire book? Will there be characters that leave only to return? Or will the characters that we thought would remain throughout the story from chapter 1, to our surprise, leave and never return again?

When we adapt this mentality of the book of our lives, we can find some peace in leaving pieces of this to the universe to unfold for us. It's nice to know you're the author, but be able to ride the rollercoaster and feel the thrill in the plot twists, surprises and road blocks as a reader. You start to realize that you actually have much less control than you think. This has allowed me to get a lot of my time spent worrying and stressing about the things I can't control, back.

When a relationship ends, a friendship fizzles out, a job or career no longer serves you, we are actively doing a disservice to ourselves and others to keep trying to force that item to remain in our current chapter. We’re allowed to change our minds, we’re allowed to want different things, we’re allowed to grow out of or past something that no longer serves a purpose for us. Our priorities can shift through life experiences, adventures and the people we meet, and it is seriously encouraged to grow and change. Explore the uncomfortable and unknown. Find peace in knowing that if something is meant for you; now or at another time in this life, it will find its way back.
